It’s life in the Fastflow lane for Roland Thomas following his appointment to head up the innovative trunk main pipeline cleaning team with Fastflow.

The success of the company’s award winning and environmentally friendly trunk mains cleaning system prompted the creation of a contracts manager post which Roland was selected to fill.

A string of contract wins over the past 12 months – including one with Northumbrian Water to maintain the North East’s clean water network – means the Washington based company has a decade of work in the pipeline.

Roland, aged 40, originally from Swansea but now living on Tyneside, believes his background in civil engineering helped him land his new role, in which he will be responsible for managing Fastflow’s new trunk mains cleaning division.

Fastflow turns up the pressure in East Anglia

on 29 March 2011. Posted in Energy Projects

National Grid’s working partnership with Fastflow Energy Projects (a trading division of Fastflow Pipeline Services Ltd) continues as the Lichfield based pipeline utility specialists begin reinforcement works on the East Anglia Local Transmission Network (LTS).

The £1.5m project will see the capacity of the LTS increased at Matching Green in Harlowe, Essex, to enable National Grid to operate feeder No. 18, running from here to Cambridge at the optimized pressure range of 75 to 20 bar. This will allow additional diurnal line pack which will supplement the LTS Hypergrid pipeline in times of high demand.

Fastflow will be working on site at Matching Green AGI until October 2011, reconfiguring the PRS station to provide both fill and empty cycles.

Awarded to Fastflow Energy Projects (FEP) after a competitive tendering process, the project is one of a number of high profile contracts the company has won with National Grid in the last 12 months; including a pair of high pressure diversion works on the A1and the A1073 near Peterborough.

Fastflow Pipeline Services has started 2011 with two important contract wins for its innovative trunk mains cleaning service.

The deals, with Northumbria Water, are worth an estimated £1.5 million and will see the company’s award winning system deployed on a 9.3 km stretch of 49” main around Ponteland and Gosforth near Tyneside and a 3.6 km stretch of 30” main between Whittle Dene and Millway in Horesley, Northumberland.

Neil Armstrong, owner and chief executive officer of Fastflow: “I am delighted that we have won these contracts.  We spent a lot of time and money developing our unique cleaning system to make it safer, more environmentally friendly and cost effective for the customer.

”We are now starting to see the fruits of our labour and having enjoyed quite a year in 2010, to start 2011 with a double success is excellent news.  We are excited about the system we now have and hope to extend operations around the UK.”

On the road with Fastflow Energy Projects

on 24 December 2010. Posted in Energy Projects

Fastflow Energy Projects (a trading division of Fastflow Pipeline Services Ltd) is keeping the nation energised after completing a pair of high profile pipeline contracts for National Grid on Britain’s road network.

The works on the A1 involved relaying 550m of 750mm diameter high pressure gas welded steel pipeline from the East side, the existing A1, to the West side of the Al(M) diversion. This relaying included the installation of two road crossings - one in an existing concrete sleeve and the other in a newly fitted pipe-jacked concrete sleeve.

Valued at £1m, the contract presented some practical and logistical challenges, with a number of parties and stakeholders to satisfy, including the Highways Agency and its road building contractor, local landowners, farmers, and English Heritage’s protected archaeology. Fastflow worked in cooperation with these groups to devise a strategy that incorporated all individual requirements, whilst also working within a tight time constraint to meet the small window available for final tie-ins.
